The verdict

A brutal, grindy solo-dev survival sandbox with lovely scenery and co-op, now tunable with mods. Skip it if you hate RNG loot-box scavenging and constant dying.

Great for

Patient players who like hardcore, grindy survival, solo or co-op, and enjoy tweaking things with mods

Main risk

The early game: RNG loot-box hunting, predators everywhere and far-off respawns mean constant deaths.

What changed in the last 30 days

Recent negative reviews mostly come from new buyers hitting the loot-box grind, predator density and far respawns, and complain about 10 years of early access. Mod support softens this, but the cause of the dip is not certain.

What players complain about

Too many aggressive predators, brutal early game

Mentioned in ~1 in 3 negative reviews

“There seemed to be a pack of wolves, bears, or other predators every few feet in the forest, so we spent more time running and dying than actually building anything.”
